His Blood on………..?

Then answered all the people, and said, his blood be on us, and on our children.  Matthew 27:25 (KJV)

Once again, (and it seems to always come up this way), we enter an area where everyone can point the finger.  Jesus is being crucified.  His accusers only have getting Him hung on the cross in mind.  His Disciples have fled Him, some even with betrayal. The church wants to put Him where they can better deal with Him and the governing authorities don´t know what to do either.

Does it sound familiar?  Everyone has an agenda.  All seem to know that Christ is someone important, or at least should be.  Some are very certain that their way is best; others do not want to put their own necks out.  But Jesus has to die.  It is difficult to fathom, but this is the way God designed things.  He has to suffer the loss of His own Son to rectify our own treason and our separation from God, and allow us to come back into His presence again.

Jesus has done nothing wrong; instead He has shown the greatest act of Love this world has ever seen.  All His life´s work was to point us to the Father and bring us all together again.  A lot of fingers could be pointed right now.  There are a lot of people to blame.  Should we make a big deal about the blame of this one, or that one?  It seems that there is nobody completely free from blame except Jesus and He is the One who has to die.

It is important to read often the story of Jesus.  But what we should keep crystal clear is His sacrifice and what that means for us.  We are all in a way to blame.  If it were not for my sins and yours, Jesus would not have had to die.  However, Jesus did come and He did give His life for us.  There is no need for us to blame each other.

Pilot washed his hands and said that the blood of the innocent man was not his and the people responded correctly.  It is upon us!

So let us get past the pointing of fingers.  Each of us should shoulder our own guilt.  Let us not look to one another, or waste time in the accusations.  When Jesus said ¨It is finished,¨ He turned the page.  Now He holds all the cards and it is for us to come to Him.  The balance weighs in His direction and there is no way we can ever repay Him.

What remains is for us to give Him what we can.  We can give Him what He has asked of us.  That is not quarreling amongst ourselves or looking to see who has more blame.  It is to turn our whole hearts to Him and to make Him our Everything.  Let us turn to Him our eyes, our worship, our devotion and our love.  If there is something left that goes out to those around us, let it be with the same love He showed for us and that we return to Him.

Dear Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice.  Thank You for Your love.  Thank You for coming and telling us to look away from all of this.  We are guilty of a lot.  Our own blood and Yours weighs heavily upon us.  Too much time we waste pointing fingers or calculating blame.  Never did You ask us for that.  But You have called our attention.  You have called us to You.  You do want us to seek to be filled with that same love You have and will come to us by being in Your presence.  Help us to recognize that what is important for us.  Teach us where to spend our time and how to lift You up in all that we do.  Bring us closer and do not let us get distracted from You as we have to tendency to do.

Amen
