All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. Acts 4:32 (NIV)
The very first Christians who gathered in the name of Jesus Christ were different than we are today. Many of them had seen first-hand the wonders and the power of the Son of God. If they had not experienced Him personally, they had heard all the stories, believed on the Presence and the workings of God in a way completely unlike we do now. God was at work and they truly knew it, saw it and stood upon it for their faith. God was directly involved with them personally and as a whole. He filled them with His Spirit. They were of one mind. They shared all they had without any sense of greed, possession or coveting. Can we say that of ourselves or those around us today?
Just knowing of the first Christians and their faith should be enough for us to try and get back to such focus on God and unselfishness even now. Could we approach the Lord in honesty and in earnest, and pray that we too can learn in our day to share everything as they did before?
Teach us what really following You means. Teach us to be like Jesus and the early Christians. Let us love, share, sell and give without thought of ourselves or our future. Let our future and our security be found in You alone! Help us to have our eyes so fixed upon You and what You are up to, that we can share everything unselfishly; especially You!
