Everything But

Everything But

“Everything is permissible”–but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”–but not everything is constructive.  1st Corinthians 10:23  NIV

The hyenas came into the camp every night looking for food.  But one night a couple of campers were ready for them. They waited in their sleeping bags until they heard the hyena open the lid of the garbage bin and stick his head in.  Then they pulled hard on a rope and the noose tightened.  The startled hyena leaped back into the shadows, but this time with the metal garbage pale´s lid firmly tied to his neck.  It made a loud banging noise and the hyena started running.  It ran through the whole camp clanging and banging while the men howled in laughter.

The next day the pranksters were still chuckling about how the hyena had chosen to run through the whole rest of the campground with its racket, before disappearing into the night.  But as they were giggling, the park ranger showed up with their garbage can lid.  He was not happy.  Christians amuse themselves in many different ways.  God in Heaven is not up there to spoil our fun.  But how much of what we do really is working along with the Holy Spirit to assist in God´s spiritual goals?  How much of our enjoyment is coming from bringing hearts into contact with the Redeemer of our souls?  Shall we try not to focus on everything, but on where the Lord is moving around us now?

Dear Lord,

Help us to focus ever more on how much of Your Spirit is in us and is filling the lives of those around us, we pray!

Amen
