For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 2nd Corinthians 10:3 NIV
She saw the teenager coming up the walk in shorts and a polo. She just happened to be there after dropping her own son at the church´s Friday night youth service. As the young man passed her on his way in, she stopped him. She sternly rebuked him for not wearing the appropriate attire. Never again did she want to see him show up to a church event in less than his best church clothes. The teenager was stunned. He looked down at what he had on. He thought that he had chosen the dressiest clothes he owned for the temperature and climate, but was obviously wrong. As she sent him home, her wish came true. He would not return wearing those clothes or any others. He stopped coming altogether. Did she win the battle for the Lord, or for the world?
That boy is now a man today. He has his own family now to raise. He has not belonged to a church for over 30 years. Our mission is to bring souls closer to God. Is that what we do? Is our Christian testimony more geared to making followers of routines, dress codes, rules or conduct? Or are we bringing tender souls before the Lord? Is the love we are showing them more like our Savior Who came in person to give His very life for us? Though we live in the world, are we acting like Christ instead of as the world we live in does?
Let our love for others reflect Your love in us. Let us build up others and draw all men ever closer to You, we pray!
