In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, Hebrews 1:1 NIV
Sitting still in the pew the children tried to focus on what the preacher was saying. He was elaborating on some doctrinal point from the Scriptures. But their attention kept wandering. One of them was drawing on a piece of paper that their mother had. One of them was fading off to sleep. And still one more was dreaming of adventures that could be lived once free to leave the confines of the church. How did we hear of the Lord our God?
Those children have grown up now and have children of their own. God still calls to them. He calls to each of us every day. In the past, many things were written down. Many people have gone before us to teach us of the wonders and the grandeur of the One worth worshipping. Whatever our past, however far we go back, we can hear the voice of the Lord calling His children Home. In this, we have a choice. We can choose to pursue a greater knowledge of God. Or we can settle for what we have already experienced of Him. Those who spoke to us in the past were obviously moved to do so by Someone worth mentioning. The God they met, they adored. The One we meet today could also thrill us for a lifetime of lifetimes. Who still wants to know the One that was spoken of in the past? Will it be us?
Let us learn of You from whatever source we can. Let us experience the wonder, the power, and the thrill of knowing You! Let the past serve to give us the kind of hope that will bring an eternity of discoveries of You, we pray!
