We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1 NIV
The university students came into the hall on the day of the exam and took their seats. The professor handed out the papers while reminding them to read the instructions. There were a lot of questions and only 20 minutes to complete the test. When he said they could begin, they wasted no time and silence fell over the room. One student brushed over the instructions and started with the questions. It was not long though when he realized that a guy near him was not working. He glanced around the room and to his surprise, some other students were sitting back in their chairs with their arms crossed over their chests. He was confused. So he read the instructions again. This time he noticed where it said, “If you have read this far, do not write on this paper. Put your pencil down, push the paper away from you and sit back in your chair. The test was if they would read the instructions as they were told.
The students learned that they needed to pay careful attention. As Christians, what do we pay attention to? Most of us will say that we should be paying attention to God. But just like taking a test, if we are not careful, we can breeze right by the important part. We can be in such a hurry to do what God wants that we forget to pay attention to Him. We could all do with spending more time with the Lord. We should all seek Christ with the urgent intention of finding Him, bonding with Him and listening to Him as He tells us where to put the emphasis in our day! Shall we start now?
Dear Lord,
Don´t let us fail in this! Help us pay so much attention to You that we always know where You are leading us, we pray!
Amen
