How Shall We Escape?

Hebrews 2:3 How Shall We Escape

how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.  Hebrews 2:3 NIV

Night had fallen at a boarding school in the Southern tip of Africa. One of the high-school students was working as security. He went to patrol the road that came onto the school property. It ran by some farmland and had a fence that separated it. Some friends of his came to see him that night. But as they were talking in the darkness, a car turned down the lane. It headed in their direction. The friends, who should not have been out there, tried to hide. One lay down in the grass in the ditch. Two others tried to leap the barbed-wire fence. One of them made it. The other almost did. He was left hanging by his trousers. How do we think we will escape if we ignore the salvation God went to such lengths to bring to us?

It is a dark world where we live. But the Lord is coming with a great light. Everything will be revealed for what it truly is. We may think that we can escape being discovered by hiding where our hearts truly are. But without the Light of Jesus, we may never see the wires that could trip us up. When Christ does come to find us, wouldn´t it be nice if we were doing what He hopes for us? Do we want God to be pleased to find us anxiously waiting for Him? God has His plan to save us and to take us home with Him. Shall we get to work now on making sure that we have nothing to hide?

Dear Lord,

Help us see our need to invest in our relationship with You! Never let us ignore Your salvation but learn to seek it with all our hearts! Help us escape, not from what we owe You, but from hiding things in the shadows of our hearts, we pray!
