Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. Hebrews 3:1 NIV
The girl was in love. She was just a teenager, but that boy was all she wanted. But unfortunately, they broke up. She was devastated. She tried to get back together with him. He did not want to. So, she became friends with his friends, hoping that running in the same crowd would provide her an opportunity. One night, he had a party and invited everyone except her. She fell into a depression. His friends found out about it though and left the party to check on her. They found her lying on the bathroom floor with a bottle of pills in her hand. At the hospital, the doctors pumped her stomach. She survived. Could she have learned her lesson? Have we? Or do we often fix our sights on the wrong things too?
Many people struggle through this life with problems greater than their powers to resolve. We struggle with our purpose here, who we should spend our lives with, and what to do with God. So many, and so pressing are these problems, that we need something to fix our hearts on to help us. We need help with our dilemmas. We need a Savior. We need a Guide. We need a Friend who sees beyond our troubles. There is only One who can ever really do the trick. His name is Jesus. He went right through the grave for us to be the One who can help us. Shall we fix on attention on Him and save us from fixing it on all those lesser issues?
Dear Lord,
Let us come to know You in a way that we are consumed with growing our relationship with You. Save us from fixing our attention on ourselves, our problems and our world, we pray!
Amen
