Unbelief

Hebrews 3-19 Unbelief

So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. Hebrews 3:19 NIV

Near the eastern border of California, there is a valley in the desert. It drops down between mountain ranges to almost 300ft. below sea level. It is one of the hottest places on earth. One day in the full heat of summer, a group of visitors pulled up to a lookout point. They parked their rental car in the parking area and stepped out into the sunlight. The heat was a shock from the cool air-conditioned interior. The views were spectacular, so it was worth it, even if it were just for a few moments to take some photos. But as the last person closed the door, they realized their mistake. The keys were locked inside! Now they were unable to enter the car or escape the terrible heat! Have we ever been unable to enter into a place where we should be or blocked away from safety?

We hear that the Bible tells us to open our hearts to God and not to harden them to His movement in our lives. But so often we do. So often we hold the Lord off. We keep Him at a distance through our lack of belief. We fail to believe that He is here with us in our moment. We fail to believe that He has the power or will to bring a change in our lives. However, God is not limited. He is in no way weak or incapable. It is our unbelief that locks us out in the fire. It is our failure to step out in faith in Jesus that holds us from being where we should be with God. Shall we seek the remedy for our feeble faith? Shall we get real close to the One who keeps us safe?

Dear Lord,

Do not let us be surprised one day to find that we are unable to enter or kept away from You. Help us find You now while there is time so You can walk us through the heat, we pray!

Amen
