Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:11 NIV
He was nervous the day of the gymnastic team tryouts. His effort to complete a back handspring unassisted left much to be desired. He knew he had to impress the judges on the vaulting trampoline. He had never tried one, so he listened to the instructions extra carefully. When it was his turn, he ran hard, hit the tramp like he was told, and closed his eyes, praying that all would come out all right. After a moment of spinning and flipping, the boy opened up for fear of landing on his face. To his surprise, he was looking straight at the judges. They looked just as surprised as he did. “You are on the team!” they said. He had given all he had but he did not realize that the flip he just stuck would take him years of training to be able to repeat. Nobody else on the team could do it. What kind of effort are we making to enter the rest that God offers us?
We can easily get caught up in our efforts to become Christians. It is even easier to misunderstand what it is to be one. We can focus on actions. We can count on training. But what our Judge is looking for are trusting souls who will close their eyes to our world and start feeling for Him. We need to begin sensing our spiritual need to walk each day intimately with our Savior. Shall we pray to God and ask Him to be right here with us as we are flying through our day and tell us when and where to open up to Him?
You can do more in us than we can imagine. Help us learn the art of opening our hearts to You so that we may enter Your rest and be with You forever, we pray!
