The Living Word

Hebrews 4:12 The Living Word.jpg

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NIV

They called it “the Mother.” The children had been exploring in the hills behind the ranch houses. They found several small caves but were so excited to find this one. It started out as just an opening in a pile of boulders. Then, as you dropped further inside, you followed a narrowing crack in the granite hill. Some places you could not touch the ground but had to suspend your body by pressing on each side. It traveled horizontally while gradually getting thinner until you had to squeeze through. It tested your resistance against claustrophobia in the darkness. But when one made it through to the other side, they felt like they had accomplished something. Has the Living Word ever tested us?

Every human being alive will have to stand up to the test that the Bible puts us to. There are many who will stand far outside and make their objective opinions. They may say that the Scriptures are not for them while never having stepped more than a page into them. Others will choose their favorite parts and say that for them it is enough. Still, others will open their hearts and let their spirits be tested right down to their souls. These blessed ones are precious in the eyes of God. Christ can reveal all His secrets unto them. Would we like to embark on the greatest adventure of all? Shall we now?

Dear Lord,

Open the Bible to us! Let it expose us and put us to the test! Let the Living Word pierce our souls and bring us to explore the unfathomable wonders of Your power and love, we pray!
