But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14 NIV
After nearly 50 days at sea, two men made it to the shore. Kind people took them in and put them up for a few nights on the island where they landed. The next day they needed to get some shoes and other essential items. So they walked down the beach to the nearest town. They found the shoe store but saw that it was next door to a supermarket. The survivors could not resist. They went straight in and bought bars of chocolate. They had been low on food for weeks and strangely for them, the taste of chocolate was what they craved. After devouring what they had bought, they went back in to look for toothbrushes, toiletries, and to get more chocolate. The shoes would have to wait. What food do we crave?
We have heard many notions of what it means to be a Christian. Some people say that they want to be good followers of Christ. But far from merely following a crowd or trying to be like those who choose a religion for its refined way of life, it is also possible to digest what we receive from God. It takes a mature and determined soul to take our knowledge and turn it into a thriving relationship. But we can meet with God on a daily basis. We can walk with Christ through each step of the way. We can taste of the Living Bread in such a way that will make us yearn for more of Him all the time! Shall we pray for that kind of intense hunger now?
The old foods will not do anymore. We want to taste You in a way that keeps us yearning for more of You! Teach us to seek You as the very Bread that sustains us each day, we pray!
