Rain On Us

Hebrews 6:7 Rain On Us.jpg

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. Hebrews 6:7 NIV

The children were playing in the driveway of the house one day. Giant but slightly scattered clouds filled the sky. The rains were due in this part of Africa but until then, the clouds had not dropped their precious cargo. Just then, a big fat drop of rain fell between the children making a dark spot on the drive. The first drop was followed by a second. This made the children look up from their game. They saw a wall of water coming towards them. Where they stood, there were only a few massive bombs falling. But across the road, it was raining so hard that nothing could be seen through the downpour. They dropped their toys and started running for the house. Shouting warnings to run faster, two of the kids made it to the shelter of the covered carport. They were dry. But the youngest child, who was only a couple paces behind them arrived soaking wet. How are we receiving what rains from Heaven on us?

Rain is a beautiful expression of God´s love and care for us. It comes only as He sends it. But His wish is for us to seek His pouring out from above. Into hearts that receive all God´s gestures to us, He is pleased to send a more drenching downpour. Shall we pray that we can cultivate our hearts and our souls to receive and drink in the Spirit of God that He will pour out on us? Shall we ask that the Lord will send showers of His blessed presence each day and that He finds fertile soil in our hearts?

Dear Lord,

Rain down on us with torrents of Your sweet Spirit! Flood us with love for You as we drink Your Holy Rain, we pray!

Amen
