True Tabernacle

Hebrews 8:2 True Tabernacle.jpg

and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. Hebrews 8:2 NIV

The children were preparing for their Christmas program. It was late evening and most of the big hall of the church was in darkness. The music teacher was working with a group of students on the stage while the others were supposed to be waiting quietly for their turn. But a few devious boys had snuck under the pews and out the back doors. There they found the stairs that lead up to the balcony. From the balcony, they could look out over the rest of the church and see the other children practicing below in picturesque spots under the lights. But they could not keep their laughter and jokes quiet enough to go unnoticed. They were scolded for not behaving like they should in the sanctuary. What is our sanctuary like and how do we act when we approach the tabernacle of God?

Children and adults alike will need to learn how to conduct themselves in our manmade church buildings. When we come together to worship, it is not just a joke or a time to act up. But there is also much more going on than grand halls and quiet vestries. The true Tabernacle is not made by human hands. It is not a place here on earth that we can dutifully file into each week. The real Sanctuary is before the throne of God. There in the Presence of the Lord, all who would come to worship Him will bow in reverent awe and praise God´s name. Shall we lift up the eyes of our souls and pay our respect to the true Tabernacle where Christ sits at the right hand of God?

Dear Lord,

Give us an awareness of Your holiness and awe. Let us bow before You now and worship Your Holy name, we pray!

Amen
