No Holiness, No God

Hebrews 12:14 No Holiness, No God

Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14 NIV

A man went to talk to a coworker of his that he knew to be a Christian. The man did go to church and said that he had been converted. But that day, he confessed to his colleague that it was all too much for him. He knew how he should act as a Christian and what should be in his heart. But he found himself far more important and interesting to think about than the people who were around him. His complaint that day was that he just couldn´t seem to get to a place where he actually felt that God was present and engaging him in his daily life. God seemed so far away. Have we ever felt like God was silent or that His face was hidden from us?

The Christian message tries to give us a lofty impression of the Almighty and loving God. The thought of His righteousness will humble and overwhelm us. But far from pushing us away from the Lord, these thoughts should tug at our hearts and make us want to have His same love and goodness welling up inside of us too. The part of the true believer is to realize our feeble longings and actively seek to strengthen them. We should willingly go to any lengths to cultivate our relationship with God and to demand to see changes in our heart. If we can turn from self and make God´s presence important enough, then change will come. Without an increasing interest in the Lord, we cannot expect to ever see Him. Without ever trying to come to know and grow close to Jesus, we will never be washed clean. What about seeking the Holiness of God today with an intensity that will actually bring us to Him?

Dear Lord,

As we seek You, fill our vision and our hearts until You loom into view and become the central focus of our lives, we pray!

Amen
