The Love of Money

Hebrews 13:5 The Love of Money

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 NIV

The young man was just starting out on his own. Many of his close friends were out to make a good life for themselves too. They began to search for fame and fortune. With self-help books, they tried to make a plan on how to make their first million. It was easy to start chasing the dream of becoming wealthy. Everything in life held the potential for financial gain. Unfortunately, though, something was missing. To get ahead in life, many times they had to choose money over friends. They had to put it before family. To get in the game, you must be more interested in the numbers than you are to be nice. For a boy who had been taught to follow Jesus Christ, this began to weigh upon his soul. Have we ever let our heart go out to money instead of seeking God´s Kingdom first?

Granted, there is a lot to be gained here in this life. But, if we only knew what infinitely greater things are to be seen in the Heavenly realms, we would for sure have no trouble in waiting. Faith would have us trust the Word of God. He promises that we cannot even begin to imagine what wonders the future will hold. We do not have to be slaves to this dream of gaining everything now. We could learn to be happy with what God graciously gives us each day. We can learn to find our joys in knowing Him more all the time. Then, even the sky, or the constellations, will not be the limit for what God will lavish upon us someday! Sound like a fair trade?

Dear Lord,

Guard us against greed and too much desire for gain in this life. Let us store up our treasures for You to shower us with one day when we can come fully into Your presence, we pray!
