Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2 NIV
They went into the mission fields when they still had young children. They did not stay there too long. The couple soon brought their children back to the US to finish their educations. They did bring back a marvelous custom though. In Africa, people opened their doors and their hearts to all kinds of people. So when this couple returned to the States, they opened their doors to others too. This custom enriched their lives and those of their children. Now the kids have moved out, but the couple continues to open up their arms. They have retired to a desert town where people go in the winter to get out of the cold. Their house is too small, but they have plots where people can pull in with their caravans and RVs. They also help run a small church there where all who visit can worship together with them. Do we still entertain strangers in our world of turmoil today?
Who knows when or if we will physically encounter an angel, but God has beautiful souls everywhere that can bless our lives by their visit. Our lives can be greatly enriched by making it important to open ourselves to others. We are doubly blessed when we do because we are also following more closely the heart of our Savior. The angels who guide and care for us see our every move. Our charitable gesture of entertaining others is seen by them and by God Himself. So whether we care for angels in disguise or for anyone else, we will surely be blessed all the same!
Give us hearts that embrace others. Teach us to treat everyone as if they were specially sent to us by You, we pray!
