But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 1st Peter 3:15 NIV
There was once a man who believed in Christ. He was the only one in his family who did. But he tried hard to be a living witness to them. He wanted his loved ones to be able to see in him the joys and privileges that having faith in God will bring. He grew closer to Jesus and there were many good changes. But he could not see for all that he tried, any positive effect on others. In fact, as his faith grew, so did a certain tension between certain family members who resisted the whole concept of God´s great plan for us. One night, he felt he needed to defend his faith. Unfortunately, though, the conversation became heated. He forgot to be gentle and respectful to the person that he felt was attacking his faith. Do we think that he was a good witness for the Lord that night?
The Christian should always be prepared to give people a good reason why we believe in salvation. But if our message comes across as condescending or harsh, we do more damage than good. In the end, the only thing that distinguishes us is our hope in Christ. Others are intelligent and will cling to their beliefs and opinions. If we learn to respect their choices and gently show them we care for them, that is when we most clearly reflect the love of God. Could our prayer today be that our simple hope in Christ is evident to all those around through our gentleness and love?
Dear Lord,
Help us learn to reflect Your gentleness and care! Let our hope in You be something others would like to have in their lives through the positive changes it brings in us, we pray!
Amen
