Walk in the Light

1st John 1:7 Walk in the Light

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1st John 1:7 NIV

Two young men on an expedition stopped their boat on the shore. Up on the hill above them was one of the only spots that you could call a town in this remote region of the world. They needed to get a few things so the headed up the trail. One of them was barefoot. They had managed to pack all their gear but somehow his sandals were not there. It was a hot day in a hot place in Africa. The trail was burning hot. When they reached the top of the hill, they found a paved road, the only one in the area. They started following it to find the town. The sun was heating the tarmac. It made the boy whimper. “Oooh, eeeh,” he chimed as he limped down the sun-seared road. It was not until years later, that the two could laugh together about that painful experience. Do we walk in the Light?

The Bible tells us clearly that we will know who walks in the Light of God. So often we think that we can tread along just as we are. But there is a piercing brilliance that shines from above. If we walk in the light of Jesus, we will be marked by our fellowship with Him. We will be tied unto each other in brotherly love. All that we were without him will be burned away and forgotten with the pain. We do not have to feel the pain of scorching streets where we now tread because the One that we walk with lifts us up. Who would like to have the Son of God as their Friend today? Shall we pray for a walk with Him that is far better than anything we can find here?

Dear Lord,

Let us walk in the Light of Your presence! Let us walk so closely with You that we cannot hide our inseparable bond. Then let Your love shine through us to those around, we pray!
