Love the World?

1st John 2:15 Love the World

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1st John 2:15 NIV

A small group of friends cheerfully walked down the dusty mountain trail until the trees opened up and they saw the lake. It was nestled in between granite outcroppings and small cliffs. It was beautiful and they loved coming here. They stripped off their day packs and pulled out their drinks and snacks. They picnicked in the shade of an old pine tree. Then, from one of the branches of the tree, they caught the rope. It was hanging where they could swing out over the cool water and drop into the lake. It was refreshing. They spent the rest of that summer afternoon leaping from the cliffs, swimming in the crystal water, and purely enjoying the warm sunny weather. Do we just love the world we live in too?

The warnings of having a love affair with our world and the things in it are not to turn us against the beauty and joy that our Father in Heaven has created for us. They are to keep our hearts in check. It is too easy for our hearts to go out to the gifts God gives us and completely overlook the giver of those gifts. Actually, we do it all the time. We get a promotion or pass a test and we swell with pride at our hard work and favorable results. If we are not careful, if we do not heed the warnings, we may easily forget the Lord´s mighty hand that was at work all along doing more than we know to bring each little success or blessing. We could forget that our Father is working on a far greater reward that He is preparing for us. Let´s listen to the warning and reserve our hearts for Him!

Dear Lord,

There are so many wonderful blessings that our hearts could go out to, but please, let our love burn more for You, we pray!
