Test Spirits

1st John 4:1 Test Spirits

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1st John 4:1

The children grew up in the church. They knew well what they could do and should not do. They were well informed on all that was asked of them. There were ways to dress, ways to eat, days, and all kinds of doctrinal issues. It was like their church had taken literally the encouragement of Christ to separate themselves from the world. They had their own schools and their own societies. They all spoke the same ways and used the same terminology. The system worked and could all be a most beautiful offering to place before our God in Heaven. But can we afford to plod along following the crowd without stopping to test the spirits?

The words of prophets, apostles, and of Jesus Himself, all combine to warn us of overconfidence in human ways. The sons and daughters of the world still live in a danger zone. Right now the battle over mankind´s souls is reaching its climactic intensity. We are directed to make good and sure that we have the Savior. This is because, without God´s Son, the outcome of the war is already decided. So we must each personally test the spirits. We need to know whether what we have is not just another fake fruit that is there to trick us into thinking we are wiser. We need to know the Spirit. This places all of us, from the man in the gutter to the man in the pew, all to our knees. In a real personal encounter, we must seek out and come to know our Lord and Savior. Who would like to take up the challenge and get to know the Spirit of Christ today?

Dear Lord,

We hear the call to test our beliefs. Let us press forward until we know You personally and walk with You, we pray!

Amen
