Before we ever dream of throwing ourselves into the work of God, let us get to know Him intimately and walk with Him in the most intense relationship of our lives. So many times we do the opposite. We come to know the Lord in part, or we find Jesus as our Savior, and we think we should leap right into the front lines. Since we think we love Him, we want to find something we can do for Him. This would be the perfect solution except for one thing. There are dark powers that will use our enthusiasm against us. All evil cares for is that we never really come to know God with any sort of intimacy. Grow the relationship with God first, then He will lead us into situations where we will effectively be able to join in the work He would have us in.
