19. “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; 20. but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; 21. for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Humans will find the tendency to incorrectly place our priorities as often as we take our eyes off God. The moment other issues crowd God out and steal our interest, we are heading down the wrong path. This is why Christians should always strive for a closer walk with our Savior. If we are speaking more often and more openly with Christ, then He will be able to lead us unerringly into His ways. If our hearts are open heavenward and intently seeking the Spirit of God to fill us, then we will be more aware of His presence and hand at work. The contrary is also true. The more we look at ourselves, our things, our aspirations, our egos, and our ways, the further we will be from pleasing God. Also, we limit the amount of His presence we can sense and we limit how much of His power He can display in our lives. Let us try to make the Lord our priority today as He is in control of everything else!
