When Christ told His Disciples to expect the Holy Spirit to come and fill them, He well intended that we were included in the deal. We may read that they had to wait in Jerusalem until the mysterious power and presence came and filled them. However, there is much we can do to prepare ourselves to be filled with the Counselor too. From the moment we learn that we can be filled, moved, instructed, and guided through all that we face in our day, we can tune ourselves to Him. We can pray for more. We can empty our lives of other interests that would crowd out the Spirit and limit Him from moving freely within us. We can study diligently, not to know He exists, but to what can be done within us to invite Him in and make Him feel at home. Let us take the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts more seriously so that our chances of being filled will seriously increase too!
