Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 (ASV)
This is the great commission. This is what Jesus asks. This is what we Christians feel is our portion and task as followers of Christ. Unfortunately this is also what the Devil would have us do too.
Yes, that´s right. The Devil although he has made the greatest miscalculation in the history of the universe, this does not mean that he isn´t extremely intelligent as well. The Devil made a misjudgment in thinking he could overthrow God, but he has been quite successful in turning our world into a place of hurt, sorrow and evil.
Therefore, when the Devils sees a Christian being filled with the Holy Spirit, he knows that it would be pointless only to fight strait in the Christian´s face. He would fight a terrorist battle and attack in ways we would not expect.
This is why we can say that the Devil would have us run off to win disciples. He would like us to feel guilty or bad if we are not sharing the good news of Christ. It sounds strange, but don´t be too hasty to throw out the idea.
Jesus calls us to go into all the nations and make disciples of people. This is not a call for numbers, masses or churches full to overflowing. He wants people baptized or immersed into the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He asks for people who have been taught the teachings of Jesus, not of men. There is a big difference between having crowds of people claiming the name of Jesus Christ, and true disciples. We have been called to assist in the bringing of true followers and seekers of God. Jesus wants hearts in tune with the Spirit and not self-pious figures on a chart.
Our Savior worked hard to help us understand that in His kingdom things are not the same as they run here on earth. There are higher motivations and more everlasting reasons for what we do. All things there are done to please the will of God. Here on our planet, we each work to please ourselves. There in His kingdom all things are to bring pleasure and glory to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. However, the only way to do anything resembling this, is to be in the most intimate and all-consuming relationship. We please God only when we are in Him, thinking, loving, living and breathing that close bond we share as we bow before Him.
Dear Jesus, we have heard Your call to spread the word and win disciples for You. Nothing would please us more than to know that we are carrying out Your wishes. But please guard us against any devious trick that would have us win people for lower reasons. Let those to whom we share our sentiments of You, be taught and shown that it is to You that they are being brought. Let our words and example lift You up and make You the most precious prize. Let those who hear come to You seeking that love, that grace and that closeness. Let people come to seek and find a presence that gives them life and reason for existence. And let their bond with You last for all time,
