Impossible Promises

He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.  Acts 7:5 (NIV)

God often promises us things that we could consider impossible.  Abraham was promised land that he wasn´t allowed to own.  He was promised descendants but he had no children.  Why would a wise and loving God do this to us?  The answer for once is not Christ, at least not in the most direct sense.  It is faith!  God is a jealous God and He does not like rivals to be found in the heart of His children.  Those who put their trust in Him must do so completely.  We will not be allowed to trust ourselves or the way our world works AND trust God.  He seeks believers who will put Him before even their own best judgment.  Has our walk with God reached this crucial test yet?

Abraham is called the man of faith.  He was promised much and to him it must have seemed impossible.  What has God promised us?  Is it something that we have trouble picturing?  What kind of attitude should we seek to have today?  Will we put our only hope in God´s promise?  Will we step out in faith?  Will we trust God to do what He says even if we think His promises are impossible?

Dear Lord,

You have promised to give us victory over self and over the cleavage that the world has over us.  They seem to be impossible promises.  Help us focus on You and step forward in faith.  Help us to trust You to provide a Way we pray!
