Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV
On the outside, he had reached a privileged peak in life. He was young but already had prestige, a good salary, and leisure time. On the inside, he was an empty mess. In his get-all-you-can world, he just could not seem to find his place. He did not know it, but God was calling him out. But, before he could make a change, his self-centered life had to die. Painfully, each little thing in his life that he counted on needed to be sacrificed or painfully removed. And they were. He watched as his life crumbled around him. This was when he found himself in a small church. They were making an altar call. His whole heart was screaming in his chest and every voice in his head too. Would he approach the throne of grace? Will we?
When the Bible speaks of approaching the throne of grace, it is not simply telling us to move ourselves to stand up and walk down the aisle to have the preacher or deacon pray for us. Our journey is one of the heart and of the soul. The deepest and most intimate part of our very being must come to and bow before our God. We must meet Him in actual spiritual contact. This is never accomplished by an awkward yet fervent, once-done declaration. It is a new way of life. Seeking our Lord in every spare moment, we can turn from our former selves and spend time at Christ´s throne with Him. Who wants to approach the throne of grace today?
Draw us like a moth to a flame. Just let us burn with desire to be with You and receive grace and help in this time of need that we are living through right now, we pray!
