Draw Near to God

Hebrews 10:22 Draw Near to God

let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22 NIV

Four friends broke out of the cover of the African trees and bushes into a clearing. In front of them, the banks of the Zambezi river dropped abruptly down to a sandy peninsula before reaching the winding water. Suddenly, just ahead of them, a lioness stepped up into the clearing. She was more surprised than they were. Both beast and people froze examining their situation. The animal was trapped. She needed to pass the people in order to enter the safety of cover. The small group was, unfortunately, blocking her only escape. She was far enough away that she didn´t need to charge them, but being boxed in, she may feel like there was no other choice. So the adventurers drew close together and stood there as if one. Where do we go to find security, peace, and comfort?

The lioness thankfully did not see enough threat to attack and left trotting along the bank to one side. Our threats in this life may do the same if the One we draw near to is God. Or, if our worst fears do attack us, we could be near the One who is able to protect us. We could be near the Son of God who has already given His life for ours. He is the victorious risen Savior. He is the King over this wilderness where we still roam. Whatever confronts us in this life will be no match for Christ our Protector. Shall we seek Him now? Shall we draw closer to Jesus and let Him draw us near to God?

Dear Jesus,

Let us draw nearer to You today! Let us come so close that we are safe and sure at Your side! Then draw us ever closer to the eternal embrace of our Heavenly Father, we pray!
