How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 10:29 NIV
An injury left a man unable to perform his duties at work. He and a co-worker had surgery about the same time. But instead of sitting around and giving time for the healing process to take place, the two decided to go to Australia for a surfing holiday. When they got to Sidney, they bought surfboards and hit the beach. This kind of activity did not leave much of a possibility for the bones to heal. Nearly a year later, one of the men had to go through another painful surgery. He had deliberately disobeyed the doctor´s orders to rest. How do we think God will feel towards showing us mercy if we belittle the great sacrifice He made by giving up His own Son to pay for our waywardness?
It is not pleasant to think of, but every time we continue doing what we like to do instead of seeking God´s will, we are insulting the gesture of love He gave to us. All the while we are running off to please ourselves we are ignoring Christ´s call to Him. An intimate relationship with Jesus is the only way we can repay the Spirit of Grace. Pushing our Lord off once, it is sad. If we continue to procrastinate and not dedicate the time for spiritual healing, then we are trampling on the sacrifice that was made for us. We deserve punishment and not further grace. Shall we turn from our ways? Shall we draw near to Jesus and seek His mercy now?
Dear Lord,
Help us turn from seeking our own pleasure! Help us turn to You and seek Your face as our lives depend on it, we pray!
Amen
