Distinguishing Faith

Hebrews 11:29 Distinguishing Faith

By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. Hebrews 11:29 NIV

It was not the first time he had fallen off the roof. On nearly every construction team there is a crazy one. He was the one they always sent up where others felt uncomfortable. This particular day, they were putting 4ft x 8ft sheets of plywood on top of the trusses to form the roof. A coworker let a sheet slide down expecting the young man to catch it. But it picked up speed. He leaped on top of it in an attempt to stop it. His plan did not work. The sheet continued sliding down the roof and out of sight between the buildings. The man went with it, riding it like it was a surfboard. His friend, who had let the sheet go, informed the rest of the workers by saying, “He fell off the roof again.” The others were almost surprised enough to look up from what they were doing. If it had been anyone else, someone could have got hurt. Do we have the kind of faith that distinguishes us?

The Bible is full of stories of people who trusted God so completely, that miracles happened. God healed, altered nature, won battles, and saved souls when without His direct intervention, it would have been physically impossible. Those believers had faith that God was near them and no situation was too large or small for Him. We too can have faith in the character and power of God that will distinguish us. All that is needed is to cultivate our relationship with Him until we see His hand at work. Shall we draw near enough to Him now that we see Him move in our lives too?

Dear Lord,

Give us faith and teach us to walk so closely with You that we will surely see Your mighty hand at work each day, we pray!

Amen
