The Great Shepherd

Hebrews 13:20 The Great Shepherd

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, Hebrews 13:20 NIV

Her name was Laska. She was a beautiful Golden Lab. She was a kind and caring dog that could be caressed even by small children. The quality that made her special though, was how she protected those in her care. If you went for a walk in the bush, she was happy to go along with you, but it was not just time to play. She was keeping an eye out for danger. You did not have to worry about snakes, baboons, or any other threat. Laska would work the other dogs up and chase every threat away. Once, she saved a man´s life, when a wounded leopard attacked him. She nearly gave her own life trying to protect him. She carried the scars from the battle, but she did survive and like a good shepherd´s dog, protected her flock. How well do we know our Great Shepherd?

God looks after His children with an eye not only for today. His care for us, like Him, is eternal. He is interested in keeping us spiritually healthy and free from the dangers we cannot even see. He has given us a Shepherd to be with us always. Jesus has demonstrated His complete commitment to saving us. He laid down His own life and carries the scars to show for his love for us. Christ can and will always be happy to walk with us and look after us like His own flock. Who would like to draw near to Him now and keep Him close forever?

Dear Lord,

Thank You for always being with us and keeping us from unseen danger. Help us to return the favor and devote our lives to staying close by our Shepherd´s side and forever in His care, we pray!
