Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. James 3:13 NIV
You never heard the woman put herself before others. She always made sure that everyone else was taken care of before thinking of her own needs. She could have got a job somewhere else, but she busied herself with helping her husband and maintaining her own home. She did her tasks without ever receiving her own paycheck or even asking for one. Whenever someone she knew needed a roof over their head, her house was open to them. She took them in and cared for them as if they were family. Sometimes they stayed in her home for quite some time. Do our lives demonstrate humble wisdom that follows the heart of our Lord and Savior?
We rush around making so much of ourselves and our important lives. Our busy world teaches us to want to make a name for ourselves and have others look up to us for one reason or another. But, the Bible teaches us a simpler wisdom. There is wisdom from above. It is to be humble and selfless. It is far more Christ-like to look beyond ourselves and simply care for others. When we look to the needs of those around us instead of puffing ourselves up, then we are truly pleasing to God. The wise of this world will laugh at us, but those who will humble themselves here will always be showing a wisdom that goes deep into eternity and far beyond the heavens. Could we pray for humble wisdom from above today?
Dear Lord,
Teach us to be much wiser than our world is teaching us to be now. Give us a humble heart that looks to You and cares for the needs of others as if it were You Yourself were loving them through us, we pray!
Amen
