Crave Spiritual

1st Peter 2:2 Crave Spiritual

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 1st Peter 2:2 NIV

Way back in the days before seat belts, the children had to ride in the back of the pickup. There was not enough room, so only the adults sat in the small cab as they drove across the country to another town. One day, the smallest of the children started to get restless. He cried. He was just a toddler and not used to being away from mommy too long. His nanny was there though, and she tried to comfort the little guy. “Do you want some num-nums?” she asked. He was growing up fast and had already stopped feeding from the breast. But he needed to be held and soon relaxed in her caring arms. What is it that we crave today?

We may not even realize it when we crave attention, worth, or direction in our lives. We might only see the other things that we run to fill our heart´s hidden needs. But the Bible tells us what our true restlessness really is. It is not that promotion or recognition we feel we deserve at work or school. It is not that earthly relationship or financial status that we dream of. What our hearts actually crave, whether they realize it or not, is to be filled with the Spirit of God. Our hunger goes deeper than the food or drinks that we could easily stuff inside and move past. Our deep ache inside is to be filled with what we were created for in the first place. We were designed to feed off of our constant communion with God. We can drink in the Spirit of Jesus as our soothing remedy. And if we realize our heart´s real craving, we could hungrily reach out for it. Let´s give in to our spiritual cravings and seek the Lord today!

Dear Lord,

Increase our hunger so that we realize You are all we really need. Let us crave spiritual milk for our very lives, we pray!

Amen
