Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1st Peter 3:4 NIV
A farmer long ago once had a sizable estate. On his property, there were plenty of jobs to do so when his kids got old enough he put them to work. The boys eventually found wives. But soon life took on a more complicated quality. Not all of the wives were willing to be unselfish and look out for the best interests of all. Greed, envy, and strife began to stir between the family members. When things got too uncomfortable, a change was in order. In the end, the old man had to give up on his dream. He sold the farm. The families went their separate ways. What kind of people do we want to be?
The prophets who speak the words that God feeds to them urge all who will listen to be considerate people. They encourage women to strive to make themselves beautiful from the inside out. They place more importance on the beauty of a gentle spirit welling up in the person´s character than trying to make themselves attractive by fine jewelry, clothes or cosmetically. Men also are called to be doting, loving husbands and fathers. They are to be respectful even to others that are not as boisterous as them. But the encouragement does not stop with appearance. If we combine our shining characters with reverence for, and simple faith in God, then suddenly a good person becomes a child of the Kingdom of Heaven. Worth, character, nobility glows through our natures as we look up into the piercing Light of Jesus our Savior! Would we like to be made beautiful to the point where it shines through?
Take our hearts and make us beautiful from the inside! Put in us the qualities of Your love that will shine forever, we pray!
