Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1st Peter 5:8 NIV
The explorers pulled the little boat that they had been traveling in for over a week onto the shore. There was no sign of human life anywhere to be seen. They set up their flimsy little tent, had some dinner, and when darkness set in, they went to bed. Just then, the lions started roaring. The roar of a lion in the wilderness is one of the most incredible sounds. It is too deep and too strong. It shook the thin fabric of the tent. It reverberated deep into the chest of those that heard it. The lions were close, but in the feeble light of their lanterns, only pale shapes could be seen moving in the shadows under the trees. Have we ever been confronted with the realization that there is a lion nearby that is looking to devour us?
Far more fierce and deadly to our souls even than the large African predator, is the enemy of our soul. There, in the shadow where we cannot see clearly, a treacherous beast lurks. His intention is to tear at our spiritual health and devour any chance we have of living safely in the arms of our Lord. Unlike a carnivore that is only thinking of extending its life by taking our and feeding on us, this devious devil only wishes to steal our lives from our Savior. He will stop at nothing to keep us from coming unto God. Our eternal fate lies in the realization that our only safety lies in staying near Jesus. So, shall we pray for ears to hear so that we are not lured away from the Light? Let´s edge in close to the only One who can save us from the roaring lion that would devour us now!
Dear Lord,
Let us draw near to You now so that we are not caught out where the evil beast could tear us away from You, we pray!
Amen
