Make Your Calling Sure

2nd Peter 1:10 Make Your Calling Sure

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 2nd Peter 1:10 NIV

They had been selected out of all the other children in the high school to be on the gymnastics team. They trained each week to learn how to hold people balanced on top of others. They also learned tumbling skills, flips, cartwheels, and handstands. Some worked harder to perfect these skills. Some were there only for a more social or relaxed class in their timetable. You could tell which ones took the class seriously. But when the time came for building pyramids with the whole team, it was time for everyone to be serious. The bigger, stronger ones stood at the base. Then the lighter ones climbed up to the next level. The smallest or bravest were normally the ones who had to climb right to the top. How hard are we working to make our calling into God´s family sure?

We are called to come to know God. We are blessed beyond words. We are given a chance to step up in faith. It is a trick that not everyone will learn. Many may participate in religion for the temporary benefits like having a higher social or moral group to be a part of. But there is so much more to our calling than cleaning up our act. There is the most amazing God to approach, to enter His presence, and to get to know. We could be one of those special few who see through the frivolous levels and nominal interests and decide to become serious about our calling. Do we want to experience the thrill of soaring above the clouds and constellations as we rise up into the glory and knowledge of the Lord our God?

Dear Lord,

Place in us a real hunger for knowing You! Help us actively seek to make our call unto You more sure each day, we pray!

Amen
