A young couple had driven up to the picturesque part of the lake. It was a romantic time for them, but it did not change the fact that they had to be back at work on time. They were reluctant to leave the gorgeous views of the water and the mountains. When they could not leave the return for any later, they set off to come back on the hired scooter. On the return journey, they met up with miles of backed up traffic. Their perfect little get-away would suffer a sad ending if they were unable to perform their duties that afternoon. Do we think that the couple had to repent stealing away on their romantic excursion?

God above has made the call for all men everywhere to repent. Some might try to tell us that this means that we must follow a defined pattern of confession, sadly make a painful payment, and then carry a heavy burden of guilt for our wrongdoings. Yet if we listen to God, and pay attention to where His heart is leading us, we will realize that repentance does not lie in outward actions or short-lived sentiments. To repent is to open our inward eyes to see how far we have wandered from the Lord. So strong will our realization be that we will actually seek to fix the distance we have placed between us and Him. A lesson will be learned. Hearts will not want to wander so far from our Savior again. Is there any way we might want to repent from separating ourselves from God and therefore move towards a closer walk that starts now?

Dear Lord,

Do not let our hearts sit well with any distance between Your heart and ours. Help us repent and seek You again, we pray!
