We can stop wondering how to come to know God because He has already shown us the Way. This crazy world will try to tell us that it is impossible, not worth the effort, or that there is no amazing entity to get to know at all. But anyone who is honest with themselves will recognize the heart´s yearning to draw near the One who formed us. Bible reading is essential and the right place to start, but we must be careful for all the other voices that would try to crowd out God´s voice speaking directly to us. It is Him whom we would know, so it is His voice we should want to hear, need to hear, and listen for. Church can also be a great channel to make us more receptive to hearing God´s words and feel His love as if flows unto all His children everywhere. But church is not God and could not and should not replace our need to know Him more. Friends, loved ones, and mentors can all assist us, prepare us, and enlighten us. But they too are only gentle nudges that should help us on our upward journey. They should be recognized as encouragement to continue our search. To know God more we have to move beyond each of the elements that we are given to help us. We cannot stop short of our goal! Press forward in our search! Do not settle for less! We can all know God more today than we did yesterday! But, we must keep our desire set on knowing Him despite anything that would keep us from seeking more!

If we would know God in growing intimacy, we must go this way of renunciation.  And if we are set upon the pursuit of God, He will sooner or later bring us to this test.  A.W. Tozer (The Pursuit of God)
