Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who has judged her is strong. Revelation 18:8 WEB
Day after day the news brought updates on the fires in Australia. There were images of blackened hills, blackened skies, and poor lovable creatures fleeing from the terrible wildfires. From what was broadcasted on the news, it looked like every bit of land on that continent had already been reduced to ashes. Those who thought koalas and kangaroos were beautiful creatures lamented the thought of losing these animals to extinction. Have we ever stopped to contemplate the prophecies of fire?
Prophecy only has value its the hearer stops to think. Children often complain about studying the subjects they don´t enjoy. But it is because they cannot see into the future. If they could stop wallowing in their self-absorption and their self-pity, they might be able to capture the concept that learning important things will bring us much more benefit if we took them in before we ever knew we needed them. When we realize that our world is changing we will always wish we had been more prepared. This is why prophecy is better seriously considered now. We do not have to wait for God to peel back the heavens and reveal all His secrets before we start listening for Him. If we wait, it will be too late. Our old world is growing tired and needs the intervention of the Almighty. So, before the fires burn up too much of our world, let us give a little attention to a small fire that could be sparked to life inside of us. Let us burn to know and grow close to our Savior now so we might still be prepared for tomorrow.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for hinting of things to come. Let Your warnings move us to seek You and draw near to You now, we pray!
Amen
