He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give freely to him who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life. Revelation 21:6 WEB
After hours at the beach, the family climbed into the car to drive home. They had taken a lunch and a cooler box with water and drinks. But it was when the car was already moving when the children began asking for water. They were told that they could wait until they got home. If they had been thirsty, they would have wanted to drink when they were asked before they left the beach. But no, they needed a drink now! There was no way to tell them to wait. They were still thirsty and they would suffer until they got a drink. Have we ever felt a strong thirst that afflicted us until that thirst could be quenched?
The Bible speaks often of the kind of people who know the meaning of thirst. This strong desire is likened to those who need some water, but the Water they need is not from this earth. The Bible also speaks of a day when God will return to make all things new and take His people to be with Him. The people who God wants to be near Him are the ones who have thirsted for Him more than the passing things of our times. He has strongly desired to be with us for ages. So, it would be right for us who would call ourselves His, to thirst to be with Him as well! We can embrace our thirst today if that thirst is after the eternal springs of the Waters of Life. Let us thirst for the Lord until nothing but being with Him will satisfy us!
Dear Lord,
You have longed to give us the sweet Water of Spiritual Life. Find in us, we pray, some who will thirst after You until You become our Fountain of Life and we can drink freely at last!
Amen
