The Lord Is The Temple

I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple.  Revelation 21:22  WEB

A young couple who were deeply in love decided to get married. They were living on a small Spanish island in the Atlantic Ocean. They went to the town hall and reserved a date with the mayor for their wedding. They were not expecting much. All they really cared about was that they could have a small ceremony with a few family members and friends. But the day of the wedding, the bride stepped through the big wooden doors into a beautiful chapel hall decorated with colorful bouquets of flowers. Have we ever thought about what makes a temple a temple and or a place of worship special?

From days of old men have been building special structures to worship in. Some of them are spectacularly desigened and elaborately decorated. Just to set foot into most temples or places of worship can often bring a hushed silence to nearly every visitor. You can sense the reverant purpose of the place and the heart is easily prepared to contemplate all that is holy. Yet, when we are told of Heaven, there seems to be no need of a temple there. God is the Temple. His presence is what overcomes anyone privileged enough to enter there. What a sensation it will be for those who make it far enough in their spiritual journey to be ushered into the presence of the Almighty! Even this hope, if we are lucky enough to sense it, can thrill our hearts as we draw near the Lord and step fuller into the Light of the One who Is the Ultimate Temple!

Dear Lord,

Sweep over our understandings a sense of what joy and thrill we will receive to come into the most holy of places! Let our heart race as we draw increasingly more into Your presence, we pray!

Amen
