I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, if anyone adds to them, may God add to him the plagues which are written in this book. Revelation 22:18 WEB
A little boy wanted to join the Scouts. So, he told the Scout leader a story in the interview that his dad had told him from Africa. But, somehow the child confused all the details and what he related had little or nothing to do with the truth. He told the lady that his dad had shot an elephant on the front step of their house. The true story had been about when a settler many years ago had found an elephant destroying his front porch one night. The lady was shocked and horrified with the story, but must have guessed that it had all been made up and let the boy join the Scouts anyway. Do we know how important it is not to add words to prophecy?
Many people try to decipher prophecy and say with finality just what the author is trying to say. Unfortunately, though, this is like the small boy who got the details of his story wrong. Whenever we try to shift spiritual concepts and make them conform to our physical world, we will run into trouble. Heaven is not part of this planet. It is a place beyond our imaginations and our powers of words to describe. God has forever been looking for individuals who want to be a part of His Kingdom. They will be people like us who will lift our eyes above our world and let our hearts gaze in wonder on our mysterious God. Let us set our hope beyond our horizons and try not to limit the Lord with our words.
Dear Lord,
Let us never lower You or Your Kingdom but rather lift our souls up to You to be amazed and bewildered with each new discovery of You, we pray!
Amen
