What I Want

It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking of God as our way of getting the things that we want. The reason for this is that the Bible has told us to bring our desires and prayers to Him. (John 16:23; John 15:7; James 4:2) However, what we forget is that our hearts should go out first to God, period. If God is what we love, if it is truly He whom we love, then He is pleased to bless us. The other side of this coin is that if our hearts go out first to the things we desire, He does not do us any good in giving us what we long for. If what we long for is Him, however, how happy He will be to give us all that we want. If what we want then is more of Him, He will be happier still. The important point of our desires should be to learn to place God far higher than any other thing we could possibly want. It is easy to say that we do this, but there is a world of difference between saying it and seeing it through. So, when we pray today, let it be for the Lord to get as much of our hearts as He wants, and let the blessing flow from there!
