We often lie to ourselves. We say that we have given our hearts to the Lord. But what have we given, anything at all?
We tell ourselves that we gave our hearts to God because we want to believe it is true. We tell ourselves we did because we have convinced ourselves that it is what we should do. But where it all breaks down is what we do to see it done.
Religions these days seem more complicated all the time. There are too many experts fighting over the right to have our attention. Christ warned of this. He taught something much more direct. He wanted us to give up our hearts. God wants our souls.
Our souls are something deep in our inner core. They are what makes us us. So, giving our utter being to God is not something we can merely say that we do. It is the transaction of our lives. It costs us everything, even our very souls. But we can do it anywhere! We can do it now! Will we go that far?
