Deceit In Our Spirit

Blessed is the man to whom Yahweh doesn’t impute iniquity, in whose spirit there is no deceit. Psalm 32:2

We might not hear it in our churches these days. But there is something God is quite serious about. He hopes to find it in His children. He asks for hearts that hold no deceit.

We don´t like to talk about it because it incriminates us. We are all guilty of the charge. We fail and have no excuse. So, we turn and look the other way. We focus our attention, and that of anyone who might notice, on something other than God.

What deceit? Already we can find our hearts leaping up to defend ourselves. But, if we humble ourselves and get on our knees, we will find it there. Deep in our souls, with God as our witness, we will all have times when we push Him out of our thoughts. Each one of us steps down our own paths. We leave Him behind. These are the moments when we catch ourselves indulging other desires. We let our hearts dwell on other treats. We dream of different delights. It is harmless enough, right?

God knows what we are like. He knows nobody is perfect but One. He hopes to find children who will come running back when they realize they have stepped away from Him. When we catch our focus, shifting to any other direction than to our God, let us turn. Let us seek Him again. Let us ask for forgiveness. Let us open our hearts to Him for cleansing. Let us pray that our spirits will be washed free of deceit!
