We hear the Savior´s teaching, “Blessed are the poor.” We know the proud have little chance of entering the Kingdom of God. And we have all felt God´s gracious hand lift us through some overwhelming trouble. But how many of us seek this essential quality that opens the floodgates of grace?
All instructed in the Christian faith know we need saving. That is a given. We, humans, have a problem. The exact things we know are undisputable are the things that we seldom consider. If being poor places us in the hands of God, it is a quality we should each seek. If being poor in heart ties us to God, let us know the depth of our need. If our hearts sense their need to cry each day for more of our Lord, we have found the best place for our hearts to be.
Dear Lord,
Let these souls of ours ache for You. Make us desperate for more. Let nothing remove our need for You. Give us hunger, thirst, and a voice for crying unto You. Do not satisfy our hearts, but let us be poor in spirit so that You can come to us for good, we pray.
Amen
This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. Psalm 34:6 (WEB)
